Without wanting to sound too cliché: God's promises sure are beautiful! ...shot hanging halfway out of our temporary lodging staircase window.

The Band Perry performed tonight at one of the hangers on Lakenheath. A girlfriend that I know from our last duty station invited me and I am super stoked she did... it was an AMAZING concert. We stood for over an hour and a half to be 4-5 people back from the stage (totally worth it). I don't even know what to tell you... amazing voice (even sans the music), entertaining, and TALENTED. We found a home! Lots of space (in English standards) and we hope to move in next month. What does it include? A conservatory (sun room), no neighbors who are able to peer into our enclosed backyard, a bedroom and dressing room and en-suite for the hubster and I, room for our huge dining room table, our king size bed and a SAUNA off of the man-cave/bonus room. Yes, a sauna, too. How I will ever leave my home to see the rest of Europe is now in question. I'm actually quite grateful for this amazing home. It currently has pink carpet (bahaha... owwww) but we asked the homeowner to update it and they agreed! Eeek. I'm sure our deposit will be sunk into that carpet considering any little drip, stain or run will be our family's fault. Anyhow, I plan to enjoy it for now. ;) Anything is better than pink carpet. Well, let me qualify that statement, anything is better than pink carpet in the carpeting world.

Also, I promise to begin coming up with better blog titles. Seriously... could I be any more dry?

My family and I begin this year in England.

Yes, we made it! It still seems so surreal. We are sitting in temporary housing with a barrowed car, bubbling excitement and deep concern about driving on the "wrong" side of the road. However, I've decided I am going to skip the last bit and drive when I'm good a ready. The hubster says he is happy to be my chauffeur for now (actually he wants to me get a license but I've decided I'm not right now).

Starting out in a new place and new year - I've put together a set of goals that is a cross between resolutions and bucket list. On that list: exploration, personal photo project, & blogging. I'm not usually very efficient but, in this case, I'm combining those 3 goals. This blogging will become a diary, of sorts, as I photograph my way around Europe these next few years.

I hope to find those hole-in-the-wall eateries.

I hope to capture those in-the-moments.

I hope I don't act too foreign or locally uneducated. (I'm sure this will spark lots of anecdotes these few years.)

Disclaimer: I am not a writer. At all. I can spell pretty well, hate grammatical errors and can pump out somewhere around 100 wpm. I love photos because it can show what my words cannot describe, so, these will be heavily illustrated posts from here.

Our last boudie marathon went so well (and I received so many messages and phone calls for more (completely flattered and blessed) that we are doing it again! Yes, again! Sunday, February 16th is the big day. Stephanie of Belle Foi Makeup Artistry will, of course, being doing the makeup. KaCy is the newest addition to our wonderful team - she is our hairstylist.

Home Instead Senior Care has a NEW place - over on Dawson and Benson. At the open house I met Stacee and her wonderful, friendly staff. And I say wonderful, as in, welcoming and always, always laughing! It was a pleasure to meet everyone and I wish you the best in your new building!

Ryan + Ashley

For months I've been excited to photograph Ryan and Ashley's wedding! Finally, last week, the big day arrived. Ashley is a sweetie in addition to being super cute and creative. Ryan is a good man and father, clearly enamored with Ashley. They both hit the jackpot when they met and fell in love. Ashley had a clear idea and vision for her ceremony and reception. She brought in her amazing, stylish ideas (seriously, she would put pinterest-ers everywhere to shame) and teamed up with Great Land Entertainment, LLC to bring together a lovely and unique evening.

The Alaskan Adventure

First day out, actually, first 6 feet in... the check engine light came on. 4 hours later we had the go-ahead...

so,

I drove the FOUR THOUSAND, four hundred and some miles from SC to Ak in just 5 days with my 2- and 4-year-old boys. What an adventure... long days in the car and a small investment in Monster Energy Drinks. Every day brought beautiful, unique scenery and Canada brought its fair share of wildlife and quite a few breath-catching (some in awe... some in terror) cliffs, bends and moments.

I am about to embark on an adventure: I'm driving to Alaska with my 4-year-old and 2-year-old beginning in South Carolina. I was born and raised in "the Last Frontier" so I'm pretty excited to see what the trip and the year in Alaska will hold for us. When I arrive in Anchorage, I will be working with and for Great Land Entertainment, LLC. I.AM.STOKED. The events GLE plans, coordinates and executes are unique, innovative and downright fun. I worked an event with GLE this past Christmas for American Fast Frieght for an evening designed around the idea of New York City Lights.

The evening included:

Elk Slider Station - sliders grilled right there

Chocolate Fountain - huge waterfall of delicious

Shaken, Not Stirred Salad Bar - Where the salad (designed by the guest) was shaken in a martini shaker and served

Photo Station - Not an ordinary booth, but a 10x10' backdrop hand-painted by a local Alaskan artist. Prints plus a disk provided soon after

Caricature Sketches - Another talented local artist who sketched the guests at the event as they were entertained by a magician

Flambe Doughnuts - Doughnuts flambe'ed before the guests and served with a scoop of ice cream

Coffee Cart - A barista was pulling espresso shots and making delicious hot drinks

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Sara of Artistique Weddings and Special Events. Mentoring: Getting my feet wet with Mikayla

I decided to get my feet wet with a bit of mentoring since I have received a few requests recently. Honestly, it is flattering that others are interested in seeing how I shoot, edit and "do" business. Also, a bit scary and daunting. Everything seemed to fall together for our session and Mikayla shadowed me during a family shoot. This particular session was through www.heartsapart.org - a wonderful program that connects soon-to-be seperated military families with photographers for free photo sessions. I am proud to be one of those photographers supporting our military in this capacity. But, I digress... our session went well and we headed back to the studio to go over a bit of editing, touching on personal style and an overview of bookkeeping. I enjoyed talking with Mikayla and picking apart our shared passion for photography (even if she does shoot with a Nikon ;) )

Jeff + Courtney

Jeff and Courtney said, "I do" this past Friday, April 5th. It was a sweet ceremony, in the sun under a tree, with close family and friends. We grabbed a few photos downtown (Courtney accidently left her keys with her mother so we took advantage of the time while we waited), then went to J&C's house to grab a couple photos and see Jeff's 60" tv ;) Our "official" session lasted about 45 minutes and included an old mill, overgrown traintracks and the neatest country store. I had a great time visiting with Courtney and getting to know Jeff a little better. Afterwards we headed to the reception for some good food, margaritas and red velvet cake.

Congrats you two!!
